Ganesh Chaturthi 2022: The festival also recognised as Vinayak Chaturthi, is a much-anticipated event for Hindus in India. This 11-day festival is widely celebrated in the community. It is observed to celebrate Lord Ganesha’s birthday. Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations this year will begin on August 31 and end on September 9. With only a few days until Ganpati Bappa arrives, devotees are concentrating on purchasing eco-friendly Ganesha idols rather than the ones made of plaster of Paris (POP), which are quite popular these days.

Steps to make Eco-Friendly Ganpati Bappa idol at home:

- Collect some black soil from your garden or any other clean place.
- Filter the soil with a cloth to remove any stones, pebbles, or ballast. The finished product will be fine and soft soil.
- Mix the cow dung in the soft soil.
- Add honey and desi ghee gradually to make a mixture.
- Mix everything together to make your eco-friendly Ganpati Bappa idol.
- Knead the mixture until it forms a soft dough. Make sure that there are no cracks in the dough.
- Mould the dough into the shape of Lord Ganesha idol. You can make a simple idol by dividing the clay into several circles and assembling them one on top of the other to portray Ganpati’s idol. Using your hands, create the God’s eyes and trunk. When you’re finished, let the clay idol dry out properly.
- If you aren’t very good at making clay figures, you can buy clay cast, which are commonly available in the market during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
- After the drying process is complete, use watercolours to further enhance the beauty of the Ganpati idol.
