Today’s slideshow Doodle honours Jewish German-Dutch diarist and Holocaust victim Anne Frank. Although only written between the ages of 13-15, her personal account of the Holocaust and events of the war remains one of the most poignant and widely-read accounts to date.
Annes’s personal account of the Holocaust is widely considered one of the most essential books in modern history. She was born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt, Germany. However, her family soon moved to Amsterdam in Netherlands to escape the increasing discrimination and violence faced by millions of minorities at the hands of the growing Nazi party.
The doodle features real excerpts from her diary, which describes what she and her friends and family experienced in hiding for over two years.

The doodle will be presented in 25 countries, including the United States, Germany, Britain, Spain, Australia, and the Netherlands. It depicts Anne Franks sitting at a desk with pages of her diary behind her.
The Diary of a Young Girl was first published in 1947 by Otto Frank, Anne’s father, the only family member to survive the war. It has since become a classic in Holocaust and world literature.
According to AFP, Anne’s “The Diary of a Young Girl,” has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide since it was first published on 25 June 1947 and has been translated into 67 languages.
One of the most famous quotes from Anne Frank’s diary is: “Although I’m only fourteen, I know quite well what I want, I know who is right and who is wrong. I have my opinions, my own ideas and principles, and although it may sound pretty mad from an adolescent, I feel more of a person than a child, I feel quite independent of anyone.”
