Haji Kamruddin: Energy Efficiency in India

A leading name in the power conditioning equipment and transformer manufacturing industry, Servokon was established in 1990 by Mr. Haji Kamruddin. His out-of-the-box ideas and farsightedness have led the company to witness continuous success in its niche market.

The entrepreneur started this company at the grass-root level, slowly building an empire brick by brick. But, within a span of three decades, it is now the No. 1 Servo Stabilizers and leading transformer manufacturer in the country with a wide list of industrial clients.

In an article for CXO Outlook magazine, Mr. Kamruddin talks about the importance of energy efficiency in India.

In any economy, electricity consumption is one of the most crucial factors. Total energy consumption can alter the economic fate of a country. There has been a global surge in demand for energy efficiency. Energy efficiency harnesses technology to help avoid or reduce energy waste so that you can still turn on the lights, drive, or wash your clothes but use less energy doing so. It really all comes down to smarter energy use.

India has been contributing to the cause for a long time. Our government has set certain guidelines to be met by the consumers of the electricity as well as the manufacturers of electrical equipment.

Manufacturers of electrical products are legally required to keep their priorities straight. The focus should not be on instant gratification by way of short-term profit, but on going the extra mile to ensure long-term benefits for the consumers.

On the industrial level, the manufacturers of electrical equipment are required to develop products that counter electricity loss and over-consumption. This is very challenging and requires a great deal of commitment.

Fossil fuel companies remain huge polluters, producing and selling fossil fuel products while scientists say we need a mass switch to renewable energy and efficiency. This is a high moral dilemma, however with the advent of electric-powered cars. Fossil fuels are constantly being depleted and thus, governments around the world are promoting the use of electric vehicles. This means a growth in the power consumption sector. The use of e-vehicles is at a very initial stage in India.

The reality of energy efficiency is achievable and is very certain. The only factor which is needed to be fulfilled is that of commitment. If the consumer, producers, and government commit to creating a better, and more sustainable future for the future generations, the dream of a completely energy-efficient nation is not impossible.
