Honda Activa Electric: The company has competition up its sleeves; Ola Electric plans to make inroads in the Honda stronghold

Honda Activa Electric: Bhavish Aggarwal’s Ola Electric, which entered the electric two-wheeler (E2W) business in 2021, have launched an electric scooter on Saturday, 22 October 2022. According to a senior company official who requested anonymity, the new product is priced very close to rival Honda’s Activa range of Rs 70,000-80,000.

Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India (HMSI), which launched the Activa brand in 2001, currently offers three models. The base model costs Rs 73,086-75,586, the Activa 125 costs Rs 76,025-88,960, and the Activa Premium costs Rs 76,587. (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). It is currently the best-selling scooter in the country, with nearly 223,621 units sold in the previous calendar year.

According to a senior company official who requested anonymity, these new product is priced very closely to rival Honda’s Activa range of Rs 70,000-80,000.

Ola Electric currently offers two electric scooters in India

Ola Electric currently offers two electric scooters – Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro for Rs 99,999 and Rs 1,29,000, respectively, and are equipped with a 3kWh battery (141 km range) and a 4kWh battery (181 km range).

According to the company official cited earlier, the new e-scooter is positioned below these models and also have a smaller battery with a range of at least 100 km on a single charge.

The new model is available in a single variant, and share the same design cues as the current S1 model.

However, it is based on a new platform with a new brand name. It will be priced similarly to, if not less than, the Honda Activa Electric. “With this model, the company intends to target not only tier 1 cities, but also tier 2 and tier 3 markets,” said the cited company official.
