Income Tax News: It might be unsettling for anybody to get an income tax notification, but fear not. Making the correct decisions will address the problem; anxiety cannot. Make sure the notice from the Income Tax agency is authentic before you freak out or do anything.
Authenticating the Income Tax Notice
There are two simple techniques you can use to verify the notice’s authenticity:
- Verifying Email Address: The Income Tax department only uses official methods for communication. Their email address will end in incometax.gov.in for all correspondence from them. An example of a legitimate email address used by the agency is intimations@cpc.incometax.gov.in.
- Using the Department Website: You can also verify the authenticity of the notification by going to the Income Tax department’s official website. Take these actions:
Step 1:
- Without Document Number:
- Enter your PAN, the type of document, the assessment year, the mobile number (connected to your tax department account data), and the date of notification or order was issued. Remember that this approach is valid for assessment years starting from 2011-2012.
- With Document Number:
- Input both your cellphone number and the document identifying number.
Step 2: Your registered cellphone number will receive a six-digit OTP after submission.
Step 3: To continue with the authentication procedure, enter the OTP.
Step 4:
- If there are no records found matching the provided criteria, the system will display “No record found for the given criteria.”
- If records are found, the system will display the details based on the type of document or notice.
