The Astonishing $200 Million Price Tag
The Oswals purchased the opulent Swiss Villa for an astounding $200 million (about Rs. 1,649 crore), according to a Times of India story. It is regarded as one of the top ten most costly houses in the world. The estate received renovations when the Indian-origin Oswal family bought it from Christina Onassis, the daughter of Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. Renowned interior designer Jeffrey Wilkes was tasked with remodelling the mansion, according to GQ. For his work on renowned establishments like the Oberoi Udaivilas and the Leela Hotels, Wilkes is well known.
From Manipal to Switzerland
The industrialist Abhay Kumar Oswal, who founded Oswal Agro Mills and Oswal Greentech and passed away in 2016, was the father of Pankaj Oswal. Pankaj Oswal is the founder and CEO of The Oswal Group Global, which has businesses in petrochemicals, real estate, fertilisers, and mining. Indian-born Pankaj Oswal attended the Manipal Institute of Technology while growing up. He is wed to Radhika Oswal, and the two of them have two kids. The intrepid Oswal family relocated to Switzerland from Australia in 2013. Villa Vari is named for Pankaj and Radhika Oswal’s two daughters, Vasundhara Oswal, 24, and Ridi Oswal, 19, who are both now enrolled in chemical engineering programmes in London. Vasundhara Oswal is the Executive Director of PRO Industries PTE LTD and the Director General at Axis Minerals.
Ridi Oswal’s Instagram Chronicles Life at Villa Vari
Instagram user Ridi Oswal is active and frequently posts pictures of her luxurious home there. After waiting for three years, she revealed that her family had finally moved into Villa Vari in February 2022. “Being Indian and living abroad you always miss the smallest things about your culture, especially in regards to aesthetics, food and even the people,” she said in a more recent post from May 2023. “It was my family’s dream to create a little India away from India and I’m glad to see they have succeeded in doing so,” She added. According to interior designer Jeffrey Wilkes, the Oswal family wanted their house to be both global in style and reflect their Indian background. He completely altered it with his use of vibrant colours, lavish chandeliers, statement furniture, and other elements. According to Hello Magazine, the property has been adorned with unique interior installations acquired from all over the world. The Amber Palace of Jaipur serves as inspiration for a series of delicately carved niches on an accent wall in the mansion, for instance, while many of the chandeliers were imported from Turkey and Morocco. The villa also has a private fitness centre, a health and spa wing with gold inlays, and huge French windows with expansive views of the gardens and snow-capped mountains.
