From Humble Beginnings to Billionaire CEO

Kailash Katkar was raised in Pune after being born in Rahmitapur, a tiny hamlet in Maharashtra, in 1966 to a normal Maharashtrian family. At Philips India, his father was a machine setter. His mother ran the household. His father envisioned his son growing up to be an engineer. His family afterwards relocated to Pune. Asha and Sanjay Katkar are the siblings of Kailash Katkar. Kailash had been a typical student who never focused on his or her studies. After failing the ninth standard at Children’s Academy High School, Kailash discontinued his education. Kailash is untrained in any profession. At a very young age, Kailash started working at a nearby calculator and radio repair business to help his family. At a nearby radio and calculator repair company, Kailash began working as a calculator technician for a monthly wage of 400 rupees. Now the company have over ₹1200 crores net worth.

The Entrepreneurial Journey from Repairs to Antivirus Pioneer

Kailash began his business career by fixing the radio and calculator. In 1990, he opened his own radio and calculator repair business with Rs. 15,000 in startup funds from his savings. At first, he worked on repairing a computer, a posting machine, and numerous other devices. Kailash began performing computer upkeep. People did not like to buy antivirus software because of the high cost. Antivirus software sold between 10,000 and 12,000 copies at that time. They would rather hand a computer specialist their machine. Sanjay began looking into it. At the time, the majority of hardware engineers or computer technicians used to format hard drives and reinstall DOS. Later, Sanjay developed antivirus software to clean computers of Michelangelo infections. For his own company CAT Computer Services, Sanjay continued to create new antivirus tools to get rid of other hazardous viruses.

From Door-to-Door Repairs to Global Antivirus Leader

In order to identify the computer virus and personally remove it, Kailash would go door-to-door in homes and workplaces. Kailash gradually came to the realisation that visiting everyone’s homes and workplaces would become tiresome in the upcoming years. Kailash began serving their regular clients and gave the business the moniker “Quick Heal.” However, a decade ago, the business changed its name from “CAT Computer Services” to “Quick Heal Technologies”. Kailash Katkar began providing free antivirus software installation for his clients’ computers. He told his clients about the antiviral programme. To protect their computers from hazardous infections, Kailash advised his clients to run antivirus software. Later, clients were grateful for his work and his complimentary value-added service. Customers advised him to develop antivirus software. Today, Quick Heal Technologies has more than 15000 employees and more than 20 million clients spread over 112+ nations. The business has changed into a well-known brand on a global scale.
