Few people pass the UPSC in their first attempt, and others must retake it. Since the majority of the topics covered in the UPSC are in the humanities, it is especially harder for applicants with a science background.
Dr. Arun Thamburaj’s Journey into Civil Services
Even then, there are several instances of science students leaving their fields to join the IAS. Dr. Arun Thamburaj is one such IAS officer. Arun Thamburaj holds a doctoral degree. Arun Thumbaraj was presented with numerous attractive options in the medical sector, including some from abroad, but he decided to focus on the UPSC exam instead.
Dr. Arun Thamburaj’s Motivation for Joining Civil Services
Dr. Arun Thumbaraj thought that joining the Civil Services would make it possible to contribute significantly to society. He then began preparing for the most difficult recruitment test ever. In 2010, he initially showed up for the UPSC exam. Despite the fact that he had passed the test, he retook the Civil Services examination in 2012 and earned an All India Rank (AIR) of 6. Currently, the Cuddalore District Collector is Dr. Arun Thamburaj.
