Vijay Sankeshwar’s Journey from One Truck to Over 150 Vehicles
Vijay Sankeshwar, who came from a family involved in the printing press industry, decided against the advice of his parents to launch his own company. He began with a single truck that he had acquired in 1976 with borrowed funds. In the first ten years, he had trouble getting the company off the ground in a very disorganised market without any technology to connect truck drivers and customers. Despite facing logistical and financial difficulties, he remained adamant that his company, Vijayanand Roadlines, would flourish in the industry. In 1994, when he changed the company’s name to VRL, the corporation started to take on its current form. He had already grown his fleet from one vehicle to over 150 at that point.

Vijay Sankeshwar’s Expansion into VRL Logistics and Beyond
Vijayanand Travels, a bus company, was his 1996 foray into passenger services from commercial transportation. Vijay has broadened his commercial interests, and the company is now called as VRL Logistics Limited. He runs a corporate empire with his son Anand Sankeshwar that also includes wind energy projects, media, and an aviation charter company. A listed firm with a market worth of more than Rs 6,000 crore is VRL Logistics. The amazing success story of Vijayanand is depicted in the Kannada movie from 2022.
