Kavitark Ram Shriram experienced a setback when his father passed away while he was only three years old. It put the family in financial hardship, making it impossible for him to enrol in school. He overcame them and eventually graduated from Madras University with a BS degree. The chance to study MBA in the United States marked the first major turning point. Later, he had a successful executive career and collaborated closely with Jeff Bezos during the early stages of the development of his e-commerce giant. Amazon purchased the Shriram-led web business Junglee in 1998 for $185 million.

Kavitark Ram Shriram’s Venture into Investment

The second pivotal moment occurred in 2000 when he made the decision to begin looking for potential investments in fledgling projects. He started Sherpalo Ventures, a venture finance firm. Shriram invested $500,000 in Google from the beginning to support it. With a market valuation of more than Rs 138 lakh crore, the organisation now known as Alphabet is one of the richest in the world.

Kavitark Ram Shriram’s Role on Alphabet’s Board

Shriram is remains a member of the Alphabet board despite having sold the majority of his investment. His total wealth is Rs. 21,637 billion. He also made significant investments in businesses like Paperless Post, Gusto, and InMobi. The billionaire and his wife gave Stanford University $61 million in 2014.
