Inspirational Stories: Describe a sandwich. Two pieces of bread with some stuffing between them. Putting together the right quantity of sauces and cheese is the challenge. When Hussain Juzer Lokhandwala, a 33-year-old entrepreneur from Pune, opened his first location in Pune’s Magarpatta in 2013, he used this straightforward sandwich-making technique. With a 1.5 lakh rupee initial investment, the cloud kitchen business has grown to generate annual revenue of several crores. How did Hussain Juzer Lokhandwala, an MBA graduate, do it? Let’s investigate.

Hussain’s Journey from Affluence to Entrepreneurship

Hussain had an affluent upbringing and had access to anything he desired as a child. Like other businesspeople, he could have easily inherited his father’s company and lived a life of luxury. Hussain talked about his father’s desire for him to succeed the family business and live a luxurious life, as well as the days he spent fighting with him. Hussain wanted to do the same thing—explore the world and fight for himself. He was curious about what it entailed to launch one’s own company. His father, whom he had to persuade about his passion, his objective, and why it was a better choice than joining the family firm, was his first obstacle in beginning his own business rather than money or facilities. Despite his father’s adamant opposition, he began advertising for his startup funding at the advice of one of his MBA teachers. Hussain had INR 1.5 lakhs available to him, which he could either use to take the long-planned trip to Europe, or he could put into his first outlet plan. He frequented Subway in Mumbai, and this provided him the inspiration and motivation for creating his own store. Hussain’s original idea was to develop a tasty, high-quality, reasonably priced Indian version of Subway. He sought to ensure that a sandwich may be purchased for as cheap as INR 29 while keeping this in mind. Hussain calls his first month as a business owner a hectic one.

Hussain Juggles All Roles in the Early Days of ‘What a Sandwich’

During the pandemic year of 2020, when many restaurants had to close due to the disease, the cloud kitchen business experienced tremendous growth. Another major turning point occurred in 2021 when they expanded beyond state lines and became a national player with up to 50 delivery kitchens.Hussain thought that continuing in the restaurant industry was the best course of action. He takes pleasure in his company’s debt-free status and claims he plans to maintain it for the foreseeable future.
