A Journey of Education and Ambition

On October 28, 1955, Indra Nooyi (pre-marriage: Indra Krishnamurthy) was born in Madras or Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She is a well-known Indian-American entrepreneur who previously held the positions of chair (2007–19) and CEO (2006–18) of the global company PepsiCo. In Chennai, India, Nooyi attended Holy Angels Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, a private Roman Catholic convent school for girls only. She earned bachelor’s degrees in physics, chemistry, and mathematics from the University of Madras’ Madras Christian College in 1974. She didn’t stop there; she continued on to finish her postgraduate coursework, getting a Post Graduate Programme Diploma from the revered Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta in 1976. That was not, however, the end of her educational qualifications. She made the decision to move to the US in order to seek unlimited prospects for her own growth and to obtain a more thorough grasp of life in general. After moving to the US, she attended the Yale School of Management, one of the top-ranked universities in the country, and obtained a master’s degree in public and private management in 1980.

Building a Stellar Career in Corporate Strategy

Indra Nooyi started working at a young age and was a strong proponent of learning as much as you can and taking every chance that comes your way. Indra Nooyi started her career in India as a product manager for Mettur Beardsell, a textile manufacturer, and Johnson & Johnson. While studying Yale School of Management in the US, she even finished a summer internship there. Following 1980, Nooyi worked at the Boston Consulting Group for the following six years as a strategy consultant. Later, she held the positions of vice president and director of corporate strategy and planning at Motorola Inc. Later, she began working at Asea Brown Boveri, an engineering company that is today known as ABB.
