IRCTC: Employees on the Brahmaputra Express train (15658) have come under fire on Twitter for allegedly overcharging customers and failing to provide a valid bill. The Twitter user Ruchi Kokcha, who was travelling with her family on December 8 from Patna to Delhi, claims that when they ordered dinner, the IRCTC food vendor told them that a vegetarian thali would cost ₹150. When they placed the order, they expressly asked to be billed.
Billing Discrepancy
When the bill did, however, it was split into two parts: ₹70 for paneer sabzi and ₹80 for the vegetarian thali, for a total of ₹150. The vendor apparently argued for an hour, insisting that this was the standard billing procedure, even after they made it clear that they had only ordered the vegetarian thali and asked for a bill to reflect that. This disagreement persisted until the supervisor of the vendor showed up, at which point she told them that the promised bill was not available. Rather, they presented them with an invoice for the vegetarian thali alone (₹80) and said that was all they had to pay.
Allegations of Incorrect Billing
Ruchi Kokcha claims that this incident exposes a pattern of incorrect billing procedures and overcharging by IRCTC employees, which damages the Indian Railways’ reputation. They implore IRCTC to look into the situation and take the appropriate steps to ensure that similar incidents don’t happen in the future.
Social Media Uproar
Online conversations have been triggered by this incident, and many users have voiced concerns about accountability and transparency in the IRCTC food service system. In order to guarantee fair pricing and appropriate billing procedures for passengers, they have demanded more stringent regulations as well as enhanced communication.
Lack of Formal Response
IRCTC has not yet responded formally to these accusations. But this incident also calls into question the integrity and openness of the Indian Railways food service system. It is unclear if IRCTC will look into the issue more thoroughly and take steps to allay these worries.
