Trans couple pregnancy: Sahad (23) and Ziya Paval (21), a transgender couple living in Kozhikode, began their gender transition process two year ago. However, Sahad paused the journey midway to become a parent. All the stars seems to have aligned for the couple who are now expecting their first child. It has now been revealed that Sahad is eight-month pregnant and plans to complete the transition journey after delivery.
First trans couple to conceive a baby
Ziya and Zahad are expecting their baby in March, Ziya announced in an Instagram post. Ziya said that this is the first case in India that a transman has conceived.
The trans-couple said that the baby will be provided with the breast milk from the milk bank.
“Though I was not a woman by birth or by my body, I had the feminine dream inside me to hear a baby calling me ‘mother’….It has been three years since we are together. Like my dream of becoming a mother, he (Zahad) has a dream of becoming a father and today a life of eight months is moving in his belly with his full consent,” Ziya wrote in her Instagram post detailing the process and thanking everyone who has supported their journey.
‘We wanted a baby’
“When we started to live together three years ago, we thought our lives should be different from other transgenders. Most transgender couples are boycotted by society as well as their families. We wanted a baby, so that we leave behind something of ourselves even after our days in this world are numbered,’’ said Paval, a classical dance teacher.
“Our journey to become a trans man and trans woman will continue. I am still continuing the hormone treatment to become a trans woman. Six months or a year after delivery, Sahad will also resume the treatment to become a trans man,’’ she added.
