Long Covid Symptoms: According to a recent study from the Christian Medical College in Vellore, Indians who have recovered from COVID-19 appear to have more serious problems with their lung functions than do Europeans and Chinese people.
Varied Duration of Impact
The study found that while some people may have to live with decreased lung function for the remainder of their lives, others may experience these lingering symptoms for as long as a year. According to the research, compared to their European and Chinese counterparts, Indian patients in the study showed a higher prevalence of comorbidities and more lung function loss.
This study clarifies the long-term effects of COVID-19 on lung health and general quality of life, and it is regarded as the first of its type for Indians.
ICMR Study Reveals 6.5% COVID-19 Patient Death Rate
According to a 2023 study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 6.5% of hospitalised COVID-19 patients passed away from the illness the following year. This death rate was found to be in line with statistics from observations made worldwide.
The research examined information from 14,419 patients in 31 hospitals, including those who had been admitted since September 2020. It was assumed that the infections in these cases were caused by different coronavirus variations, such as the original strain, delta, or omicron.
