Magh Mela 2024: The Sangam area, the site of the annual religious fair Magh Mela-2024, has been fortified with heavy security as it prepares for the crucial Mauni Amavasya bathing festival on Friday. Pilgrims from across the country have gathered for the event, prompting traffic diversions and restrictions from Wednesday night until Saturday noon.
The Mela administration, with completed preparations, aims to ensure a safe and smooth bathing festival for all devotees. By Thursday afternoon, approximately 48 lakh pilgrims had already taken a dip in the Sangam water, making the most of the bright sunny day.

- Mauni Amavasya, the last Amavasya before Maha Shivratri, is significant for devotees who believe that taking a dip in sacred rivers on this day will cleanse them of sins.
- Astrologers indicate that Amavasya will begin at 7.11 am on Friday and continue until 5.06 am on Saturday, allowing devotees to perform rituals and take a dip from sunrise to sunset on Friday.
- The term “Mauni” signifies silence, and devotees traditionally observe silence while fasting on Mauni Amavasya, making it a day of spiritual significance.
- The festival falls in the Magha month, earning it the name “Maghi Amavasya.” Pilgrims follow the tradition of taking a dip in the sacred rivers to purify themselves.
