Police in Maharashtra’s Palghar made changes on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway at the spot where former Tata group chairman Cyrus Mistry was killed in an accident.
Palghar Superintendent of Police (SP) Balasaheb Patil told that in the last three months after the accident, changes and repairs have been made on the Charoti bridge for the safety of the motorists and the local people.
Ambulance will be available at different places
Balasaheb Patil said, “Earlier, we had decided in a meeting that ambulances would be available at four different places on the highway so that people injured in accidents could be taken to the hospital. Besides, we had converted the three-lane road into two lanes. Changed to and put up boards with speed limits.” He said that illegal road cutting has been banned in the area.
More changes in coming days
Palghar’s Superintendent of Police further said, “We installed rumble strips to reduce the speed of vehicles, installed new delineators and blinkers and repaired potholes on the highway.”
He said that more changes are likely to happen in the coming days. Mistry (54) and his friend Jahangir Pandole died on September 4 after their car rammed into the railing of the Charote bridge. Gynecologist Dr. Anahita Pandole (55) and her husband sustained serious injuries.
International Road Federation (IRF) Honorary President KK Kapila had said that the audit has recommended low-cost measures to prevent accidents. These measures, he had said, included installation of symbols indicating maximum speed limit before curves and bridges, warnings against overtaking, emergency maintenance, closure of open spaces in between and appropriate symbols to guide drivers.
