Mahindra Thar: Mahindra Thar’s five-door variant appears to be reaching pre-production, and a well camouflaged test mule has now been spotted several times. Here are the top ten things we can anticipate from it, which is scheduled to arrive in 2023:
The extended Thar will, first and foremost, provide more comforts than the three-door model. Auto air conditioning and a new infotainment system with connected automobile technology are among the anticipated feature upgrades. Like the Scorpio N, it might also include front and back parking cameras as well as rear AC vents.
Made-to-order model:
The Wrangler’s five-door version typically sells more units than the three-door version in foreign markets like the U.S.A. After the release of the five-door Thar, Mahindra might experience a similar situation and decide to limit production of the three-door model while still manufacturing it to order. The Indian automaker may also provide eager customers the option to upgrade their order to the five-door Thar given the lengthy wait for the off-roader SUV.
No convertible
The three-door Thar offers a fixed hard top and a convertible soft top as options, but unlike the Wrangler, it does not offer a permanent metal top or a removable hardtop. For increased safety, Mahindra is likely to offer the five-door Thar with a metal roof; this would be a first for the eponymous brand. The lengthier Thar won’t have a convertible, but it might gain a detachable hard top constructed of the same weather-resistant material as the existing Thar’s roof.

Better performer
The two newest engines, a 2-liter turbo-petrol and a 2.2-liter diesel, are the driving forces behind Mahindra’s three newest SUVs, the Thar, XUV700, and Scorpio N. Both six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are available for both engines. The five-door Thar will undoubtedly receive the same, but in a better tuning than its four-door sister.
In the standard Thar, the diesel engine is tuned to 130PS and 300Nm, while the petrol engine offers 150PS and up to 320Nm. The five-door Thar could have the same performance output as the Scorpio N, whose diesel engine can produce up to 400Nm of torque and its gasoline engine 203PS and 370Nm.
2WD option
The five-door may only be available in rear-wheel drive versions as a more useful family SUV. For individuals who desire the Thar’s rugged appearance but don’t want to go exploring in the wilderness and require the 4WD system, these can be the more inexpensive options. The three-door Thar is essentially a lifestyle car, with 4WD as standard equipment, and costs around the same as larger SUVs.
Pricing
The ordinary Thar is available in two trim levels and costs between Rs 13.53 lakh and Rs 16.03 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The five-door Thar will probably cost between Rs 1 and 2 lakh more than comparable three-door Thar versions. Additionally, additional variations with more features that might cost around Rs 20 lakh and come with an automated transmission and 4WD are probably coming (ex-showroom).
