MG Air Electric car: Prior to its premiere in India, the MG Air Electric tiny car has now been seen in great detail. With the introduction of the MG Air EV in India, the Micro EV market will experience a revival. Mahindra tried this in the past, but it didn’t result in the required sales.
We may anticipate the Micro EV market segment to prosper now that the market has developed and opened up. Indians are increasingly purchasing more expensive and high-end vehicles than ever before. Sales of Micro EVs might be on the rise right now. Take China, our neighbor, where the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, or Micro EV, is the most popular 4W vehicle.
Similar to many Micro EVs
The MG Air EV and China’s best-selling vehicle are likely to share a powertrain. All of the Baojun E100, E200, and E300 models, the Wuling Air EV, and the Hongguang Mini EV are connected. To appeal to a larger range of audiences, all of these have various body types and designs.
The Wuling Air EV offered in Indonesia will probably remain very similar to the MG Air Electric Small Car. We can anticipate significant adjustments to India’s battery and climate control systems. A boxy, eccentric silhouette and a tech-heavy, futuristic interior are likely to endure.
Specs and features
MG might choose to localise as much as feasible. According to reports, MG will purchase its EV parts from Tata AutoComp and Gotion, which use LFP battery cells similar to those seen in the Nexon EV. There are two variations of the Wuling Air EV: the SWB (Standard Wheel Base), which measures 2599 mm in length, and the LWB (Long Wheel Base), which measures 2974 mm in length. India could acquire the latter.
Dimensions and price
1,505 mm wide and 1,631 mm tall describe the MG Air EV. LWB has four seats, but SWB only has two. In Indonesia, 12″ steel wheels are available. Two powertrain options are available for the Wuling Air EV: a 50 kW and a 30 kW power motor. And two possibilities for range, ranging from 200 to 300 kilometres on a single charge. The former costs IDR 250 million (Rs 13.2 lakh), while the latter costs IDR 300 million (Rs 15.9 lakh).
Competition
It is comparable to Nexon EV Max pricing at these prices. We can see this gaining popularity quickly after debut thanks to its opulent inside and focus on the niche market of an urban run-about vehicle. If it is Indianised enough, MG might bring down prices and make it a better proposition. It will be launched in 2023 and before that, it could be showcased at 2023 Auto Expo.
