Monsoon Alert: IMD Predicts Early Onset of Southwest Monsoon in Kerala

Monsoon Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released its second weather forecast report on Monday, predicting the advancement of the southwest monsoon towards Kerala by May 31, a day earlier than the usual onset date of June 1.

IMD Predicts Early Onset of Southwest Monsoon in Kerala

The IMD’s report indicates that conditions are becoming favorable for the southwest monsoon to commence over Kerala within the next five days. Additionally, the monsoon is expected to extend to Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu shortly thereafter.

Kerala is currently experiencing pre-monsoon rainfall, setting the stage for the impending monsoon season. The arrival of the monsoon in Kerala marks a significant shift, as it moves northward and provides relief from the scorching summer heat in the regions it typically covers.

The IMD’s forecast brings much-needed hope for respite from the heat and signals the start of the crucial monsoon season, which is vital for agriculture and water resources across the country.
