Muharram 2020: This year, the month of Muharram starts on 20 August. This month is considered very holy after Ramadan. It will end on September 18. Muharram is celebrated on the 10th of this month. The festival of Muharram is celebrated in the sorrow of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussein, the prophet of Islam, the prophet Hazrat Mohammad Sahab.
As soon as the moon of Moharram is seen, the Ajadars become confused in their Imam’s sorrow. This day commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his 72 Janissars in the ground of Karbala.
These are important part of the procession of Ashura to be taken out on the ninth and 10th day of Moharram. The martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions is remembered at Karbala in Moharram.
These tazias are the replicas of the tombs of Hazrat Imam Hussain and Hazrat Imam Hassan of the Prophet Mohammad and form an integral part of the procession of Ashura.
The beginning of the Hijri calendar: In 638 A.D., the second Caliph of Islam, Omar, felt the need of the calendar. Different calendars were used in countries like Iran, Syria, Egypt etc. So, Khalifa Omar envisioned a calendar that would be for the entire Muslim world. The beginning of the Hijri calendar was the result of this.
