Navratri 2021, Day 7, Maa Kalratri: Festival Date, Timing, Significance, Worship Method and Mantra

Navratri during the autumn season is known as Shardiya Navratri and among the four Navratri of the year, Shardiya Navratri is the most auspicious Navratri. It is also known as Maha Navratri. It is a nine-day long festival dedicated to a form of Goddess Durga where each form represents a specific feature of the mother. Shardiya Navratri falls during the Shukla Paksha of the Ashwin month of the Hindu lunar calendar. It started on October 7, 2021 and will end on October 15, 2021. Maa Kalratri is worshiped on Saptami Tithi. It is considered to be the most ferocious form of Goddess Parvati.

Maa Kalratri: Significance

Goddess Kalratri is also known as Goddess Shubhankari because of her auspicious power in her fiery form. It is believed that she makes her devotees fearless. According to the Markandeya Purana, Kalratri is one of the destructive forms of Goddess Durga. She rides a donkey, her complexion is the darkest of nights, her hair is long. He has three eyes. When she breathes, flames come out of her nostrils. His four arms are holding a bowed thunderbolt and a curved sword in the left two hands while the right two hands are in abhayamudra (protection) and vara mudra (blessing). Two demons Shumbha and Nishumbha attacked Devlok. The gods prayed to Goddess Parvati for their help. To create and fight terror, Chand and Munda were two demons sent by Shumbha and Nishumbha, the goddess created the goddess Kali/Kalratri, who killed both Chand and Munda and was then named Chandmunda. Kaalratri ruled the planet Saturn.

Devotees should take a quick bath and wear clean clothes.

The idol of Goddess is installed near the Kalash.

Offer paan and betel nut to the goddess.

Ghee lamp is lit in front of the idol.

Shri Durga Saptashati text is recited.

Mantras of Maa Kalratri are chanted.

Aarti is done and bhog is also offered in the evening.
