Driving Licence: Here’s a delightful update for all aspiring drivers! Acquiring a driving licence now no longer requires the often exhausting trips to the Regional Transport Office (RTO). The process is now available online, allowing you to apply for your licence without stepping outside your home.
The Route to Your Online Driving Licence Application
Anyone aged 18 or over can kick-start the application process for a driving licence online. The journey begins at the sarathi.parivahan.gov.in website, the dedicated platform for such applications. Please note, however, that this online facility is only available for learner’s licences. The acquisition of a permanent driving licence will still require a physical visit to the local RTO.
Navigating the Online Application Process
After landing on the website, your first task is to choose your state and then click on ‘Apply for Learner Licence.’ Subsequently, you’ll be guided to apply through your Aadhaar number. You’ll also need to indicate whether you prefer to undertake the driving test online or at the RTO office.
After you’ve entered your Aadhaar particulars and mobile number, a One-Time Password (OTP) will be forwarded to you to verify your details. Following a successful validation, you’ll be prompted to acknowledge the terms and conditions by ticking the appropriate box and proceed to select your preferred mode of payment.
Once validated, you’ll need to read and tick the box to accept the terms and conditions, followed by choosing your desired method of payment.
The Journey Post Online Application
Before the initiation of the test, a 10-minute video comprising important driving guidelines awaits your attention. Upon completion of the viewing, an OTP alongside a password will be dispatched to your recorded mobile number.
This data is vital for you to complete a form and participate in the examination. For passing, it’s mandatory to answer no less than 6 questions out of a total of 10 correctly.Upon successful test completion, a digital copy of your learning licence in PDF format will be issued promptly.
In a nutshell, the advent of the online application process for learner’s driving licences is a commendable move towards simplifying the often complicated task of procuring a driving licence. It grants applicants the ability to manoeuvre through the initial stages without having to physically visit the RTO, offering a more efficient and user-friendly journey. Remember, safety first! Best wishes for your test!
