National Girl Child Day: India observes January 24 as “National Girl Child Day” each year. Its goal is to increase public awareness of girls. It is crucial to invest in such a scenario in order to protect the future of the kids. With a focus on females, the government has introduced numerous programmes that can assist you better your girls’ futures.

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana

The Central Government’s long-term savings programme is called Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana. It was specifically created with girls in mind. This allows girls to open accounts from birth until ten years old. You can invest as little as Rs 250 and as much as Rs 1.50 lakh in this within a financial year.

After opening, this account can be used for up to 21 years. Parents may withdraw half of the funds for further schooling, etc., after the child turns eighteen. Currently, the government is providing interest on it at a rate of 7.6%.

Balika Samridhi Yojana

Female children from homes with incomes below the poverty line are eligible for benefits under the Balika Samridhi Yojana. This is a Central Government plan as well. Eligible girls are those born on or after August 15, 1997. Under this, a 500 rupee gift is given to the girl child upon her birth. Following this, the daughter receives a scholarship for her studies starting in the first grade.

Udaan CBSE Scholarship Program

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) introduced the UDAN programme. The Central Government started it in an effort to address the issue of the low number of female students enrolled in engineering programmes. Applicants must be female students enrolled in PCM class XI in CBSE schools.

Unveiling the National Scheme for Incentivizing Girls

The Central Government introduced the National Scheme for Incentivizing Girls for Secondary Education (NSIGSE) in 2008. Its objectives were to lower the percentage of female students who drop out of school and make sure they finish their education by the time they turn eighteen.

Girls who have completed the eighth grade and enrolled in the ninth grade are eligible for its benefits. The girls receive 3,000 rupees in the shape of FD in this. She is also granted this interest, which she can take back once she turns 18 and completes her tenth year of education.

State-Sponsored Initiatives Transforming Lives

Numerous state governments sponsor programmes specifically for girls, such as the Kanyashree Yojana in West Bengal, the Mukhyamantri Kanya Suraksha Yojana in Bihar, and the Ladli Lakshmi programme in Delhi.
