Customers are now adopting online banking services to save time and fraudsters are using this to carry out their scams. Major banks in the nation, like AU Bank, SBI, PNB, Axis Bank, and others have provided customers with the required recommendations to safeguard them from fraud. SBI Bank Warns About APK Fraud
It is important to note that SBI bank has warned about an APK file fraud which allows third parties to access all your information and hackers can easily obtain information and commit fraud. Previously, SBI had advised its customers, through social media, not to open any kind of link received via WhatsApp or messages to prevent fraud.
How Does APK Fraud Occur?
- First, hackers send a link to the customer through a message or WhatsApp.
- When the customer clicks on the APK and installs it, various warnings appear on their screen.
- After that, the hacker receives a connection on their hacking device, gaining access to the customer’s mobile phone, leading to fraud.
Ways to Protect Yourself
- Never download a link if the APK file size is just a few KBs.
- If an installed APK file requests permissions for camera, microphone, GPS, contacts, SMS, etc., immediately remove that program from your phone.
- If you have an antivirus software installed on your phone, it will immediately detect the threat, indicating that the APK file is not safe.
- Users should follow the warnings from the Google Play Store.
- Reboot your phone periodically.
Other Banks Issue Warnings Against Online Fraud
It is worth mentioning that ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and AU Bank have also issued necessary guidelines to their customers to protect them from online fraud. Axis Bank had requested its customers to verify the source before sharing any online information.
