Online Food Delivery Price Hike: Are you one of them who order food online from Zomato and Swiggy? Then we have a bad news for you because both online platforms increased their delivery charges from Rs 2 to Rs 3. Swiggy implemented a platform fee of Rs 2 each order, regardless of cart value, in April. Swiggy’s platform charge has also been raised from Rs 2 to Rs 3. Swiggy competitor Zomato, on the other hand, hiked its platform charge in August to Rs. 3 from Rs. 2.

“There has been no significant change in the platform fee, which is charged by the majority of service providers and is standard practise across industries. The platform fee is currently Rs 3 in the majority of cities where we operate.”

Notably, the platform charge is regarded as a means of improving unit economics – the revenue received by a company from each unit of sale or order. Swiggy, a local food aggregator, recorded an 80 percent year on year increase in losses to about $540 million in 2022, according to information published by its owner Prosus in June. Swiggy’s CEO and Founder, Sriharsha Majety, said in a blog post in May that the meal delivery firm became profitable in March of this year.
