Gone are the days of carrying a stack of documents to the Passport Seva office. The updated rules by the MEA allow applicants to upload necessary documents directly to their DigiLocker account, making the process smoother and more efficient.
What is DigiLocker?
A safe cloud-based platform for sharing and storing digital documents is offered by the government programme DigiLocker. Without requiring hard copies, you can use DigiLocker to authenticate and share your electronic papers with the Passport Seva system.
Steps to Use DigiLocker for Passport Applications
1. Grant DigiLocker Access:
- You’ll come across a self-declaration page for ‘Fresh/Re-issue Passport’ applications when completing your passport application on the Passport Seva web portal.
- To share your documents online, click the ‘Grant DigiLocker Access’ option.
2. Sign in to DigiLocker:
- Log in to your DigiLocker account.
- Select the ‘Fetch from DigiLocker’ option to grant access to the Passport Seva portal.
3. Share Required Documents:
- Select the file you wish to upload, such as a proof of address proof or a proof of birth.
- Allow the Passport Seva portal to access these documents.
4. Upload Supporting Documents:
- Follow the same steps in the ‘Upload Supporting Documents’ section of your application.
