Punjab News: Punjab Minister Dr. Balbir Singh Addresses Stubble Burning and Prosecution of Dera Chief Ram Rahim Singh

Punjab News— Punjab Minister Dr. Balbir Singh addressed two major issues on Sunday, focusing on stubble burning and the prosecution of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

Farmers First Affected by Stubble Burning, Says Dr. Balbir Singh

Speaking on the effects of stubble burning, Dr. Singh emphasized the immediate impact on farmers. “Whether or not (air) pollution goes to Delhi is a matter of debate. But the farmer who is burning stubble is the first one to get affected,” he said. Punjab continues to face challenges in managing stubble burning, which significantly contributes to air pollution in North India, especially during harvest season.

Punjab Government Upholds Rule of Law in Dera Chief’s Prosecution

On the legal front, Dr. Balbir Singh commented on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s approval for the prosecution of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the 2015 sacrilege cases. “The Punjab government has restored the rule of law and the law will take its own course,” he stated, reinforcing the government’s commitment to justice. The prosecution comes after the Supreme Court recently lifted a stay on the trial, allowing the legal proceedings to move forward.

Ram Rahim Singh is currently serving a 20-year sentence for rape and was convicted in a 2019 murder case, making the reopening of the sacrilege case a significant legal development in Punjab.
