Ranchi News: Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand, is grappling with a severe water crisis following disruptions in the supply from the Rukka Dam to more than 25 wards. The interruption, attributed to repair work at five different locations, has left approximately seven lakh people in around 55 localities without regular access to water. The Rukka Dam, a primary source of drinking water for these areas, typically supplies around 30-35 million gallons daily. Among the affected localities are RIMS complex, Morabadi, Karamtoli, Lalpur, Kantatoli, Kokar, Tharpakhna, Upper Bazaar, and Nivaranpur.
Water Crisis Grips Ranchi and Jamshedpur; Residents Protest Against Shortages
Additionally, Ranchi receives water from Hatia Dam and Gonda Dam, both vital contributors to the city’s water supply network.
Meanwhile, neighboring Jamshedpur is also facing a water scarcity issue, with several areas reporting shortages. In Jugsalai, residents staged protests outside the Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC) against the water crisis and submitted a memorandum to the municipal authorities. Chaparia Mohalla residents are experiencing a shortage of tap water due to alleged diversion of water to Saffiganj Mohalla by the administration. Moreover, erratic electricity supply in Jugsalai has compounded the problem, preventing locals from accessing water from borewells.
According to reports, over 600 households in Chaparia Mohalla have been compelled to purchase drinking water jars from the market due to inadequate water supply over the past two weeks.
In a separate incident, residents of the Khairbani area in Dumka’s Ramgarh resorted to road blockades after facing drinking water shortages, resulting in significant traffic congestion in the area.
