Many people often use their past to justify certain actions that could not be healthy for you as well as the people in your life. This indicates that you are using a circumstance that you cannot alter as justification for who you are right now. Nobody has the power to undo events from ten or twenty years ago, however, we shouldn’t give such memories or anecdotes enough power to impact the life we are living right now, says Yoga Guru Sadhguru

Grow out of uncomfortable situations

The likelihood that you will overcome your limitations increases as you encounter more challenging situations. You must develop quickly, especially in uncomfortable circumstances! Painful experiences frequently have a profound impact as well. Don’t let profoundness pass you by when it does, in whatever form. That is what develops you into a new realm of potential. If you’ve had unpleasant but profound experiences in the past, try not to let that cause a wound inside of you. You need to curate it into wisdom now.

Sahdguru says, “I know situations leave impressions on you. What you call “my mind” is not really your mind it is just society’s garbage bin. Everyone who passes this way will stuff something into your head. You have no choices about what you receive in your mind, but you do have a choice about how you assimilate it and how you make use of it in your life. For the same given situation, one person becomes wounded, another person becomes wise it is in the way they assimilate it.”

There may be an external stimulus for the worst and best things we experience, but they are essentially self-created. The most lovely and dreadful experiences we have, joy and misery, all originate within us. The issue is that we are not in control of the experience. We are simply moving forward out of a compulsive response to any outside stimuli. You must design the seat of your experience. You have the power to change what occurs to you into what it becomes inside of you.

Spread your wings

Now, once you live in the world, invariably you will step into some filth you cannot help it. Not only in the world, but in your own mind, it is there all the time. Now there are some people who develop an allergy to filth and try to run away, but whether you leave your home or your city and go to a cave or a mountain, still your mind follows you. You cannot really shake it off. Another set of people thinks, “Anyway, everywhere there is filth. So let me also become filth.” But there is another possibility. Filth is good manure; you can make use of this filth and throw out your wonderful blossom and spread your fragrance around the world.

“What we refer to as yoga is a process that turns squalor into fragrance. The things that life throws at you aren’t always your doing. What you choose to do with it is entirely up to you. Don’t renounce that decision. I wish for you to control your own destiny,” says Sadhguru.
