Today is the last day of Pitru Paksha. Sarva Pitru Amavasya is also called Pitru Visarjan Amavasya. On this day Shradh is performed for all the ancestors whose date is not known. The special significance of this day is considered in the scriptures. Many rules have to be strictly followed in Pitru Paksha. According to the Puranas, on the day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya, some work should not be done at all, otherwise you have to face the displeasure of the ancestors.
Don’t let the monk return empty handed
If someone asks you for a donation or food on this day, do not return it empty handed. You must give them something according to your ability. But don’t let anyone return from your door empty handed. You can also donate flour or rice to charity.
Stay away from vengeful food
Do not consume garlic, onion, meat and alcohol on the day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya. It is believed that it hurts the ancestors and those who do so get Pitra Dosh. Eat absolutely sattvik food on this day and take food only after offering it to the ancestors. Gourd, cucumber, gram, cumin and mustard greens should not be eaten on this day.
Don’t do good work
Auspicious work like mundan, grah pravesh should not be organized on this day. Also, do not buy important things for the house on this day. Buying new clothes or any kind is also considered inauspicious. The last day of Pitru Paksha should be spent simply.
Keep these things in mind
Hair, beard and nails should not be cut on the day of Sarvapitri Amavasya. It is considered inauspicious to do these things in the scriptures. In Hinduism, there is a custom of shaving the hair on the death of someone, but it is forbidden to cut the hair during the Pitru Paksha. Therefore this work should not be done on this day.
Amavasya Muhurat
Sarvapitri Amavasya will remain from 07:04 in the evening to 04:34 in the evening on Wednesday. On the day of Sarvapitri Amavasya, after the tarpan, the needy should be fed with reverence. Its importance has been mentioned in the scriptures. According to tradition, food is fed to cows, crows, fire, ants and dogs after Shradh. This gives peace to the ancestors and they become satisfied.
