Life Certificate: The Life Certificate program, designed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 10, 2014, already has been an extremely big milestone in streamlining the pension process for the retired employees in India. Officially known as Jeevan Pramaan Patra, it provides pensioners with the ease of maintaining their pension benefits through an annual certificate confirming their status. It was otherwise a tedious time-consuming process of subjugation of the body to one’s local branch of banks or post offices, while the government has today relieved it with the incorporation of the digital life certificate system.

Introduction of Digital Life Certificate

The EPFO now informed that pensioners can apply for the digital submission of Jeevan Pramaan Patra from home. The process was supposed to be easy and accessible. It has been designed especially for those individuals who find it hard to visit actual locations.

Here Is The Process

Submitting digital life certificates requires pensioners to have at least a 5-megapixel front camera on the mobile and an active internet connection. Also, its Aadhaar number should be mapped to that e-KYC profile. It involves downloading two applications available on the Google Play Store: Jeevan Pramaan Face App and Aadhaar Face RD. Users have to scan their face through the application and fill in the relevant information. All this comes with the ultimate picture taken through the front-facing camera of a phone and is finally submitted, without having to bother oneself walking to banks or post offices.

Significant Growth in Digital Life Certificate Adoption

The government data will reveal a significant adoption rate of this digital service. As per the current financial year 2023-24, over 6.6 lakh pensioners availed of the facility for a digital life certificate. In contrast, the previous year saw only 2.1 lakh people. That is, it has a tremendous growth rate of over 200 percent annually. Still, pensioners have the option to deposit their certificates personally at the Common Service Centers or government offices if they so wish.

This is a giant leap in digitizing pension administration, which reflects the government’s commitment to using technology to ensure better service delivery to the public.
