Swamitva Yojana 2023: Through a video conference, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi proclaimed the distribution of property cards under the Swamitva Yojana. The scheme aims to empower landowners, sending a link via SMS to approximately one lakh property owners across the nation, enabling them todownload their respective property cards.
State Governments to Physically Distribute Property Cards
Once property owners have downloaded their digital property cards, respective state governments will proceed with the physical distribution of these cards. This scheme is expected to significantly facilitate rural populations in procuring loans from banks, using their newly acquired property cards as a form of collateral.
Swamitva Yojana Promotes Transparency in Land Ownership
The Swamitva Yojana is expected to revolutionize land ownership, especially for rural populations. The scheme promises a digital inventory of property, collected by the Revenue Department, thus offering a comprehensive record of rural lands. It also includes digital provisions for resolving disputes over land, marking a significant advancement in rural land management.
Implementation of Swamitva Yojana Across India
Following the announcement in the Union Budget 2021-22, the Swamitva Yojana is set to be implemented nationwide. Initiated in October 2020, the scheme already boasts a successful record of providing property documents to rural citizens. In the first phase, villages from every district of Uttar Pradesh were selected, with surveys also being conducted across all 75 districts. With successful implementation in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, other states are gearing up to launch this transformative initiative.
Swamitva Yojana 2023 represents a milestone in the nation’s efforts to digitise land ownership and provide a sense of security and empowerment to rural property owners. As the scheme continues to be implemented across the country, we can anticipate a sea-change in the approach to land ownership, land-related disputes, and rural development.
