Mahindra on Top
With sales of 9,898 units in August 2023—a significant rise of 40.28% from the same month last year when it sold 7,056 units—the Scorpio range emerged as the undisputed leader in terms of year-over-year growth. With a large 42.71% market share, this strong performance sent the Scorpio to the top of the list. Another Mahindra, the XUV700, came in second with sales of 6,512 units. The combined market share of the Mahindra SUVs in the mid-size SUV category is over 70%.
Top 5 Mid Size SUVs of Aug 2023: Harrier and Safari
August 2023 brought difficulties for Harrier and Safari. Only 1,689 units were sold by Harrier in August 2022 compared to 2,596 units in August 2022, a dramatic fall of 34.94%. As opposed to 1,820 units sold the previous year, sales of the Tata Safari fell even more dramatically, by 44.01%, to 1,019 units. The forthcoming release of facelifted versions of Safari and Harrier is what is causing this sudden fall.
Hyundai Alcazar
Hyundai’s Alcazar also experienced a decline in sales, with 1,493 units sold in August 2023 versus 2,304 units in the same month the previous year, a 35.20% drop in sales. Alcazar has 6.44% of the market. 2,059 units of the MG Hector and its extended variant, the Hector Plus, were sold in August 2023, an increase of 7.41% from the same month the previous year. The market share of MG SUVs was 8.89%.
Jeep Compass
Sales of the Jeep Compass fell sharply, falling by 81.32% from 921 units in August 2023 to 172 units in August 2022, representing a 0.74% market share. With sales of 91 units in August 2023 vs 155 units in August 2022, Volkswagen’s Tiguan similarly experienced a reduction, representing a decline of 41.29% and a 0.39% market share.
