Toyota C-HR: The C-HR Prologue concept gives a glimpse of the next-generation Toyota C-HR crossover vehicle. Like the first-generation C-HR, the second-generation crossover will have a very different look. For the first time, it will also be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain in addition to a full-hybrid model.
The new Toyota C-HR will use the same engine as the most recent Prius
The striking new C-HR will have a lot in common with the Prius, which was just shown off. This will share the latest generation of Toyota’s TNGA architecture and offer the same choice of powertrains. It will be sold in many global markets alongside a similar-looking but slightly bigger electric SUV-coupé. This is part of Toyota’s ongoing attack on the important C-segment crossover market, which was hinted at by the bZ Compact Crossover concept.
Technical details are still being kept secret, but the powertrains are likely to be a variation of the PHEV powertrain, which combines a 149hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with a 160hp electric motor on the front axle for a total of 224hp. Toyota thinks that the new C-HR Hybrid will be the best-selling version. It will use an updated version of the current car’s drivetrain, but with a slight boost in power to 194hp.
Details of the new Toyota C-HR design
Like its predecessor, the new C-HR was made at the European design centre for Toyota in Nice, France. The overall shape of the car will stay the same, but the overhangs will be shorter and the wheels will be moved closer to the edges.
Toyota says that the Prologue concept was based on the phrase “condensed stance monster,” which describes the C-HR. The production version of the C-HR will have the new “Hammerhead” front end, which is being used on all Toyota models to give them a common look. But the finished product probably won’t have the same three-tone finish as the Prologue concept.
The production car should be shown off around the middle of 2023, and it should go on sale later that year.
Toyota is focusing on making hybrid cars for the Indian market right now. Toyota just released the Innova Hycross, which has a strong hybrid powertrain. It joins the Camry sedan, the Vellfire MPV and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder midsize SUV.
When it comes to pure EVs, Toyota is working with Maruti Suzuki on a midsize SUV that will compete with the Creta. It will come out in January 2025. The new SUV will be built on a born-electric 27PL platform, which is a version of the 40PL platform.
