The Motor Vehicles Act of 1932 states that a traffic police officer does not have the right to confiscate a driver’s car keys by force. If a traffic cop does this, you can respond to them in legalese and inform them that they have no right to do so. You are still allowed to request to take the key even after this.

According to Section 130 of the Motor Vehicles Act, if the policeman asks for the document, you must show it to him. However, if the policeman requests to hold the document in his hand, you have the option of not providing it. Whether you want to give the documents to them or not is absolutely up to you. The police may, however, seize your licence in certain circumstances.
