Train Accident Tamil Nadu: Railway Safety Commissioner Inspects Kavarapettai Accident Site

Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, October 12, 2024 – Anant Madhukar Chowdhary, the Railway Safety Commissioner of the Southern Circle, conducted an inspection at the Kavarapettai accident site today. The inspection follows a rear-end collision that occurred last evening between the 12578 Mysuru-Darbhanga Express and a goods train, leaving 19 people injured.

The accident took place near Kavarapettai station in Tiruvallur district, where the express train collided with the goods train that was stationary on the same track. Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported, and most of the injuries were described as minor.

Investigation Underway

Following the inspection, Railway authorities initiated a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the collision. According to officials, the Railway Safety Commissioner is reviewing the safety protocols, signaling systems, and operational procedures to identify any lapses that might have led to the accident.

Relief and Rescue Operations

Railway officials have ensured that all passengers were safely evacuated from the express train, and an alternate train service was arranged for their onward journey. A team of medical professionals and emergency responders was dispatched to assist the injured and oversee the recovery efforts at the site.

The Ministry of Railways has expressed concern over the incident and assured that appropriate safety measures will be taken to prevent future accidents. A detailed report on the inspection and investigation is expected to be submitted soon.
