Weather Update: India has been experiencing a very different month of May this year. As per the reports, this has been the coolest May in 41 years and has had the wettest start. Some regions also experienced fog. In Arunachal Pradesh, heavy rains are expected to lash isolated places, while in Assam and Meghalaya, fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely to occur. Meanwhile, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Vidharbha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep should prepare for scattered showers and thunderstorms.
The department has predicted thunderstorms in the southern regions of Bengal after the 12th of May if the system intensifies into a cyclone and hits the Bengal coast. This will also impact the northern plains in coming days.
Moving on to other regions, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Coastal Karnataka, and North Interior Karnataka can expect isolated rains accompanied by thunderstorm.
Delhi
The national capital is forecasted to experience some relief today. The region is expected to have partly cloudy conditions with intermittent patches of clouds. Isolated areas may receive rainfall. The maximum temperature for the day will be 34 degrees, while the minimum temperature will remain at 23 degrees. Humidity level is expected to be 70%.
Mumbai
Mumbai and its suburbs can expect a predominantly clear day. The morning will start with partly cloudy skies, but the day will get sunny and bright with time. Humidity levels are forecasted to be around 75%, and temperatures will range from 28 to 32 degrees Celsius.
Chennai
IMD has projected that Chennai will witness moderate rainfall and scattered thunderstorms today. The sky is expected to remain mostly cloudy throughout the day, with humidity levels reaching as high as 88%. Temperatures will vary between 27 and 32 degrees Celsius.
Kolkata
The latest forecast predicts a period of relief in Kolkata. The region is expected to remain dry with no chances of rainfall, and the day will remain sunny and clear. The humidity is projected to be around 89%, while the maximum & minimum temperature will be 34 and 26 degrees respectively.
