COVID-19 infections linked to the Tokyo Olympics has risen to 148, with 16 additional cases recorded on Monday, including three athletes.
Three athletes, four contractors, eight Games-related employees, and one Games employee have been found to be COVID positive, according to the organisers’ daily COVID-19 update.
All three athletes do not live at the Olympic Village, which has had 16 instances documented since its inception.
The new appointments include one Games-related employee and a contractor who are both Japanese citizens.

The necessary 14-day quarantine has been imposed on the three athletes and seven Games-related personnel.
After the inclusion of eight further instances, the total number of Games-related personnel who have tested positive is now at 83.
The Czech Republic, the United States, Chile, South Africa, and the Netherlands are among the countries affected by COVID-19 after landing in Tokyo.
After four athletes tested positive for the virus and had to withdraw from beach volleyball and road cycling events, the Czech Republic is looking into suspected health safety policy violations by its contingent.

On Monday, the organisers urged the media covering the Games to adhere to COVID-19 protocols, saying that they have been “made aware of incidents of alleged non-compliance”.
They warned of “disciplinary consequences” for violating the rules on health safety precautions.

Meanwhile, Dutch tennis player Jean-Julien Rojer was forced to withdraw from the Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19.
Rojer and his doubles partner Wesley Koolhof, who were scheduled to play Marcus Daniell and Michael Venus of New Zealand, pulled out of their second-round match on Monday following Rojer’s positive test result.
