Virat Kohli completed his 16 years in International cricket and what a career it has been. From a brash and talented youngster to becoming one of the greatest batsmen ever, it has been a beautiful journey.
16 years is a long time and Kohli has played with so many players in his career. When he debuted he was a youngster amongst so many established superstars and now he is the one guiding the youngsters.
One of the established superstars during Kohli’s debut was none other than current Indian Head Coach Gautam Gambhir. This duo won the 2011 ODI World Cup together and had an important partnership in the finals.
‘So Much Talent’
On the occasion of Kohli’s 16th anniversary in International cricket, Gambhir went down memory lane. He opened up about the bond these two share and how they have been together for a long time.
Gambhir stated “When he made his debut in Sri Lanka and played his first ODI, I remember he had got out early. But I knew that he would serve the country for a long time the way he was batting in the nets.
He was a brilliant player and had a great attitude and temperament. He knew how to fight and win matches for his country when he came into the team. It was the biggest positive of his entire cricketing career the way he won matches for his team.”

These two have been together in one way or another throughout. Gambhir was at the other end when Kohli scored his first international century. The ICT head coach was once again on the other end when Kohli came to bat in the 2011 ODI World Cup final.
They had a major spat during IPL 2024 which garnered so much attention. And now these two are leading India into a new era with so many dreams and ambitions.
