In a recent interaction, AB de Villiers clarified his previous comments about Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma expecting their second child. He admitted to sharing incorrect information on his YouTube channel, stating, “I made a terrible mistake, sharing false information, which was not true at all.”
De Villiers emphasized the importance of family, saying, “Family comes first. It’s the priority. I think whatever’s best for Virat’s family comes first. No one knows what’s happening there, all I can do is wish him well.”
Impact on Kohli’s Cricket Career
The senior Indian batsman has missed the first two Tests against England in the ongoing five-match series. His return to the Indian cricket team is expected to be delayed further as he is certain to miss the third Test.
De Villiers Previous Comments
Earlier, on his YouTube channel, De Villiers had shared excerpts from the texts he and Kohli had exchanged. These texts seemed to confirm that the Indian star was expecting a second child. De Villiers had written to Kohli, “Been wanting to check in with you for a while now biscuits. How are you?”. Kohli’s response was, “Just need to be with my family right now. I am doing well.”
The Ongoing Test Series
The five-match Test series is currently evenly poised after India won the second Test to draw level at 1-1. Kohli had missed the first two Test matches of the series due to personal reasons. It is learnt that he had flown to England thereafter with his family.
