Starry performances throughout the day
Creating history, Tunisian player Ons Jabeur accomplished a remarkable feat on Monday by becoming the first African athlete ever to reach the quarter-finals in all four Grand Slam tournaments. Jabeur’s path to the French Open quarter-finals was paved with ease as she convincingly defeated Bernarda Pera in a 6-3, 6-1 victory during their fourth-round clash.
As the No.7 seed, Jabeur, who reached the finals at Wimbledon and the US Open last year, required just 63 minutes to overcome Pera and secure her spot in the last eight at Roland Garros. This achievement also marks the first time a Tunisian female player has reached this stage of the tournament.
In another notable performance, Alexander Zverev, having triumphed over Grigor Dimirov in straight sets, advanced to the quarter-finals of Roland Garros for the fifth time. Joining him in the impressive display, Tomas Martin Etcheverry achieved a personal best by reaching his inaugural Grand Slam quarter-final after defeating Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka.
