Lionel Messi: All India Football Federation secretary general, Shaji Prabhakaran, admitted they had the opportunity to host Argentina in a friendly manner. Argentina FA reached out to AIFF to plan a friendly match between Argentina and India.
But unfortunately, AIFF had to turn down the opportunity as they did not have enough funds to organize such a grand spectacle. Mr. Prabhkaran stated in an interview with Times Of India. He also mentioned that there was no big partner backing them up, which was needed to organize such a match.
No Funds to host Lionel Messi Argentina
Prabhakaran stated that Argentina FA reached out to AIFF to plan a friendly between the two nations. They also mentioned that for such a match to happen, they needed a lot of money and a strong partnership backing them up.
And nothing was present with AIFF at that moment, and they had to deny this golden opportunity. “For such a match to happen here, we need the backing of a strong partner. The kind of money that Argentina command is huge, and we have limitations in terms of our economic situation in football.” Prabhakaran further stated.

A Dream Quashed
Lionel Messi is one of the greatest footballers of all time. It would have been a dream of many Indians to watch their idol play in India. But alas, this dream remained a dream only. Prabhakaran also mentioned the lopsided match it would have been.
Even though they could not host Argentina, Prabhakaran will meet with Argentina’s FA for some partnership. “We are interested in having some partnership with the Argentina FA. There is a lot of interest from Argentina too, even from their clubs,” Prabhakarn further stated.
