Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane has opted out of upcoming county season and gave fans an explanation behind his decision. Watch

Ajinkya Rahane: The extensive schedule the Indian team players had in these last few months was tiring. From IPL to the West Indies tour, they will directly go against Ireland and participate in Asia Cup 2023.

So, it is obvious for players to take a break from cricket as soon as they get some time. And our vice-captain for the red-ball format, Ajinkya Rahane, is doing the same thing. The right-handed batsman has taken a break from competitive cricket for the next two months.

He will resume his cricket in October in the domestic circle, but that also means he will miss the County Cricket season with Leicestershire. There were lots of rumors going around regarding the same, but Rahane came out and cleared everything with the fans through an Instagram post.

Will Focus On Fitness

Rahane posted a video of him working out and captioned why he is taking a break from cricket. He looked back at the past four months he spent playing high-intensity cricket, including IPL 2023, the World Test Championship final, and then the West Indies test series.

He stated that now is the time to recharge and recuperate the body before starting again. And as India is not supposed to play any test match till late December, he will play domestic cricket with Mumbai.

The vice-captain further stated that representing Mumbai is an honor, so he wants to be in the best shape during the domestic season. And that is the exact reason he has opted out of domestic cricket.

Has Rahane Retired From Test Cricket County?

He further stated that Leicestershire knows about the decision and has supported the changing situation. And this break does not mean that Rahane will never play county and has retired from the English domestic circuit.

He mentioned in the post that he is hopeful and would like to renew his relationship with the English side in the future.
