World Cup 2023 Final: Chief of the Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav made a subtle jab at the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday when he stated that if the World Cup 2023 match had been played in Lucknow rather than Ahmedabad, Team India would have prevailed.
Team India’s Lucknow Match Would Have Garnered Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Blessings
Speaking at a public gathering in the Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh, the SP chief went on to say that Team India would have received the blessings of former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lord Vishnu if the match had taken place in Lucknow. The former Samajwadi Party government renamed Lucknow’s cricket stadium as “Ekana Stadium.” Notably, Lord Vishnu goes by several names, one of which is Ekana.
Yogi’s Move Commemorates Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Contribution to Ekana Stadium
The Yogi Adityanath administration later renamed it as “Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium” in 2018 in remembrance of the late prime minister and BJP stalwart. “The match (World Cup 2023 final) that took place in Gujarat, if it had happened in Lucknow, they (team India) would have got the blessings of so many… If the match had happened there (Lucknow), team India would have got the blessings of Lord Vishnu and Atal Bihari Vajpayee and India would have won…,” the SP chief said among a cheerful crowd in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah.
Alleges Incomplete Player Preparation Due to Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium
Akhilesh Yadav further claimed that the players’ preparation was not fully completed because of problems with the pitch at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. “Now, we have heard that there was some issue with the pitch and people’s (players) preparation was left incomplete…,” he added in his speech. Rahul Gandhi, a Congress member, also made fun of Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in the day, referring to him as a panauti (bad omen) and claiming that India lost to Australia in the 2023 World Cup final on Sunday as a result of his arrival.
