FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023: FIFA, the world football governing body, has announced that Argentina will host the 2023 Under-20 World Cup. The decision was confirmed by the Bureau of the FIFA Council on Monday, after the Argentinian Football Association (AFA) submitted a bid and a FIFA delegation inspected the country last week. Argentina has replaced Indonesia as the hosting nation of the tournament.
When will FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 tournament begin?
According to a report, the FIFA U20 World Cup is set to commence on May 20 and will run until June 11. This tournament will mark Argentina’s first time hosting the event since 2001. The official draw for the FIFA U20 World Cup is scheduled to take place on April 21 at FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich. This draw will determine the groups for the tournament and will create much anticipation and excitement for fans around the world.
After being selected as the host nation for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, Argentina will participate in the event, replacing Indonesia. Argentina has a successful track record in the competition, having won it six times, with their most recent victory coming in 2007. Additionally, Argentina has previously hosted the tournament in 2001.
What did FIFA President Gianni Infantino say?
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated, “FIFA is delighted to announce that this year’s edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup will take place in Argentina, as the home of the world champions opens its doors to the tomorrow’s superstars of world football.”
Continuing further, he said, “The U-20 World Cup plays a key role in FIFA’s efforts to promote youth football across the world. Since 1977, this tournament has featured some of the greatest players of the past decades, including Diego Armando Maradona, Lionel Messi, Paul Pogba, Erling Haaland and many others. Having this year’s edition taking place in a country that lives and breathes football will be a tremendous inspiration for the stars of tomorrow.”
