ODI World Cup 2023: Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the most underrated bowlers in the world. Despite being the number one ranked test bowler, the off-spinner has constantly faced exclusion from the team at certain times.
World Test Championship 2023 final was one such example. But Ashwin’s career is not only filled with surprise exclusions but with surprise inclusions as well. Take his miraculous selection in T20 World Cup 2022, for example.
But we can’t say the same about his ODI World Cup 2023 selection, as the spin scientist is not in the selectors’ plans. Bowlers like Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzivender Chahal, and Ravi Bishnoi getting nominated before him, and Ravindra Jadeja retained his spot.
Not Affected By Non-Selection For ODI World Cup 2023
When asked whether he was not getting selected or not in talks for the World Cup squad, Ashwin replied bluntly and spoke his mind. The off-spinner said he does not let it affect him, as team selection is not his job.
In an interview with Times Of India, Ashwin stated, “I had decided long back that I would not think about stuff that is not in my hand. I am honestly in a very good space regarding life and my cricket. I try to keep negativity away from my thought process.”
Considered Retirement In The Past
Ashwin also commented that he used to consider retirement in the past but not because of injury. He further stated that he was in a bad phase and used to think negatively about his career.
But right now, he is feeling amazing and is taking one day at a time. This is the first break he has witnessed in a very long time, and he wants to take complete advantage of that.
