Asia Cup 2023: The last Super 4 match for the Indian team was quite unfortunate. Not only they did lose to Bangladesh for the first time since 2011 in the Asia Cup, but they might have also suffered a loss of a player.
Axar Patel was gritty and ferocious in the last match. Other than Shubman Gill, he was the only one who showed some fighting spirit for the Indian team. He was determined to get India over the line and it looked possible until his untimely out.
It looks like that Axar might have suffered a knock during the match as well. There were a few instances where the Southpaw suffered some blow in the matches. While he looked comfortable on the field, it looks like those blows are more serious than we initially thought.
Likely To Be Ruled Out Of Asia Cup 2023 Final
India will face Sri Lanka in the finals on Sunday and Axar is doubtful for that final. He suffered two knocks against Bangladesh. One was on his wrist when he dived to prevent a stumping and landed awkwardly.
Another was on his left hand when a throw from the boundary line hit directly on his arm. He was in a considerable amount of pain and the physio had to rush to the ground to treat that blow. The all-rounder scored 42 runs off 34 deliveries with 3 boundaries and 2 sixes.
Washington Sundar Called Up
Another southpaw all-rounder Washington Sundar has been called up for the finals to replace Axar Patel. Washington Sundar will travel to Sri Lanka and will join the squad camp. He will be available if a replacement is needed.
Washington is also part of the Asian Games 2023 Indian squad that will take place in China at the same time as the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
