Asia Cup 2023: BCCI and PCB continue to stay rigid on decision, venue to be decided next month, details here

Asia Cup 2023

Asia Cup 2023: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) met in Bahrain on Saturday to discuss the future of the Asia Cup 2023. During the executive board meeting, the decision on the venue of the tournament was deferred to next month. The members of the ACC will continue to deliberate on the hosting and make a final decision at a later date.

Asia Cup 2023 was originally slated for September

The Asia Cup 2023 is a much-anticipated event in the cricketing world, with the tournament scheduled to take place in Pakistan in September. However, this plan has faced some challenges, with the Indian cricket team refusing to travel to Pakistan for the tournament. This has led to calls from the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who is also the current President of the ACC, for the tournament to be held at a neutral venue.

Jay Shah has made it clear that the Indian team’s safety is of utmost importance and that they will not be participating in the tournament if it is held in Pakistan. The ACC is now faced with the task of finding a new venue for the tournament that would be acceptable to all members and ensure the safety of the players and staff involved.

Pakistan unlikely to participate in ODI World Cup

This sparked a controversy, as former PCB Chief, Ramiz Raja, countered by stating that Pakistan would not travel to India for the ODI World Cup later in the year. Upon his return to the helm of the PCB, Chairman Najam Sethi took up the issue and requested a meeting of the ACC Board to discuss the matter.

The strained political relationship between India and Pakistan has caused a halt to bilateral cricket matches between the two nations since 2013. The two countries have only faced off in global tournaments or multi-team events since then. The last time India visited Pakistan was for the 2008 Asia Cup, and Pakistan’s most recent trip to India was for the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup. In the recently held 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, the two teams faced each other for the first time in several years.
