Asia Cup 2023: Pakistan’s batting legend Javed Miandad has expressed his anger towards India and stated that they should go to hell if they do not want to visit Pakistan to play cricket. This statement was made in response to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) refusal to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, which is scheduled to take place in September.
Asia Cup 2023 row between BCCI and PCB
In October of last year, the BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that the Indian team would not travel to Pakistan for the multi-nation tournament, and later, as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), he announced that the tournament would be shifted to a neutral venue.
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) opposed this unilateral decision, with former PCB chief Ramiz Raja threatening not to go to India for the ICC World Cup 2023 and current chief Najam Sethi echoing similar sentiments.
Recently, in a meeting of the ACC called by Najam Sethi, the decision to announce the venue of the tournament was postponed until March, as the discussions between India and Pakistan ended in a deadlock. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come under fire from Miandad for taking a hard stance against travelling Pakistan.
What did Javed Miandad say?
During the PSL exhibition match, Miandad said, “India can go to hell if they don’t want to come to Pakistan to play cricket. I’ve always backed Pakistan. And you know that I don’t leave spare India whenever an issue arises. But the thing is we need to look at our part. And we should fight for it. We don’t care because we are getting to host our cricket. This is ICC’s job. If ICC can’t control this there’s no use of the governing body. They need to implement similar rules for every team. If teams like these don’t come, they should be debarred. India hoga, apne liye hoga. Hmare liye nahi hai.”
He also said, “Come and play. Why don’t they? They run. For them it becomes a trouble if they come here and lose to us. The public there can’t stomach it. It’s always been the case. During our time, they used to not play because of the same reason. Riots and fighting take place there. The crowd there is very nasty. You would’ve seen whenever India loses, to anyone, the crowd there burns down houses. When we used to play, they had faced such troubles.”
PCB says their team won’t travel for ODI World Cup 2023
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has declared that it will not allow the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to move the Asia Cup from Pakistan, citing that other teams such as England, New Zealand, and Australia have recently toured the country. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has explained that it is unable to secure clearance from the Indian government to travel to Pakistan for cricket matches due to ongoing diplomatic tensions between the two nations.
As a result of the BCCI’s stance, it is expected that the tournament will be shifted from Pakistan to another location, with the PCB still retaining the rights to host the tournament.
